WORKSHOPS

I hold 3-hour embodied consent workshops for actors as an introduction to intimate scene work. I currently run these workshops in Central London for pairs of performers but am able to facilitate this work for larger groups. Please get in touch if you'd like to book a workshop. Feel free to apply partnered or solo.

Sliding scale rates available.

BODY

Actors frequently ask me about creating separation between the actor's body and the character's body. In order to safely inhabit a character through intimate scenes, it's imperative that we consider the actor's body first. With this in view, we spend the first hour exploring the body with curiosity and self-touch, practising expressing and receiving consent and establishing boundaries.

MOVEMENT

Taking cues from Laban's Kinesphere and Paxton's Contact Improvisation, we begin to make enquiries into solo and partnered movement, before stepping into character. We delve into the quality of touch and how we might begin to build on stories of human relationships through connection and movement.

STORY

The final hour of each workshop is spent deep diving into context and character. We look at The Who and The Why of each character involved in a chosen scene. We consider what they might be bringing to the moment of intimacy, what we need to learn from their physicality and its importance in the story as a whole. We'll start looking at history, relationships, power dynamics, before collaboratively choreographing our selected scene.

"LOVED IT ALL. I CAME AWAY BUZZING AND TELLING EVERYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN HOW GREAT IT WAS. I LOVED THE PROGRESSION OF THE EXERCISES FROM WORKING WITH OUR OWN BODIES, THROUGH TO CONTACT, TO BUILDING INTIMACY RIGHT THROUGH TO TEXT AND CHARACTER WORK. IT GOT ME TO A PLACE WHERE I FELT SAFE, SUPPORTED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE."
